Travel to Jiangxi between November and March for some of the best bird watching opportunities in China. The areas around Wuchang and Wuyuan provide some of the world’s greatest wetland reserves and this tour will take you to places that foreigners rarely visit.
Itinerary Day By Day
Day 1 – Arrival in Nanchang, drive to Wucheng
Our English speaking tour guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area at Nanchang Airport and drive you to your hotel in Wucheng which is about one and a half hour’s away from Nanchang. The bird watching will begin at Da Hu Chi where there are large flocks of geese and other birds. At Sha Hu Lake you will take a boat to see more birds.
Today’s target birds include –
Bean, Greater and Lesser White-fronted, Tundra, Taiga and Swan Geese, Eurasian Spoonbill, Bewick’s Swan, Oriental Stork, Common Crane, Siberian Crane, Hooded and White-naped Cranes, Spotted

Day 2 – Nanjishan Nature Reserve, Wuyuan
In the morning you will drive for about two and a half hours to Nanjishan Nature Reserve on the south side of Poyang Lake to begin your bird watching. Over one hundred different species of birds have been observed in this reserve including twelve that are listed as national key protected birds.
In the afternoon you will drive for another two and a half hours to Wuyuan County which is a very popular bird watching destination in southeast China because of its forests and many nature reserves. More than 370 species of birds can be found here.
Today’s target birds include –
Oriental Stork, Siberian Crane, White-naped Crane and Hooded Crane, Swan Goose, Bean Goose, Tundra Swan, Eurasian Spoonbill, Japanese Quail, Peregrine Falcon, Northern Harrier, Northern Lapwing, Dusky Thrushes, Chestnut-eared Bunting, Pallas’s Bunting

Day 3 – Wuyuan
Today you will have a very early start to a special bird watching place where there are abundant seed trees. In the afternoon you will transfer to the Le’An River which is a good place to see rare Scaly-sided Mergansers. Also known as Chinese Mergansers, they are considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Finish the day spotting a completely different range of birds in a forest.

Grey-chinned Minivet, Black and Chestnut Bulbul, Chinese Bulbul, Collared Finchbill, Hwamei, Grey-sided Scimitar Babbler, Black-throated Tit, Japanese White-eye, Fork-tailed Sunbird, Tristram’s Bunting, Common Pheasant, Elliot’s Pheasant, Scaly-sided Merganser, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Grey-capped Woodpecker, Common Kingfisher, Oriental Turtle Dove, Long-tailed Shrike, Black-collared Starling

Day 4 – Depart Wuyuan
This is your final bird watching morning around Wuyuan.
Today’s target birds include –
Mandarin Duck, Elliot’s Pheasant, Red-billed Starling, Sooty-headed Bulbul, Eastern Imperial Eagle, Brown Crake, Plain Prinia, Black-collared Starling, Crested Myna, Scaly-breasted Munia
Later you will be transferred to either Nanchang Airport, Jingdezhen Airport or Huangshan Airport to check in for your flight to your next destination.
