Itinerary Day By Day

Day 1 – Arrival in Nanchang, drive to Nanjishan Nature Reserve

Our English speaking tour guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area at Nanchang Airport and transfer you to your hotel. Then you will drive to Nanjishan Nature Reserve near Jiang Xiang town to begin your bird watching. Over one hundred different species of birds have been observed in this reserve.

Today’s target birds include –

Oriental Stork, Siberian Crane, White-naped Crane and Hooded Crane, Swan Goose, Bean Goose, Tundra Swan, Eurasian Spoonbill, Japanese Quail, Peregrine Falcon, Northern Harrier, Northern Lapwing, Dusky Thrushes, Chestnut-eared Bunting and Pallas’s Bunting

Day 2 – Yiyang

In the morning you will drive for about two and a half hours to Yiyang, a small county located beside the Xinjiang River. This area is where dozens of Scaly-sided Mergansers spend the winter. Also known as Chinese Mergansers, they are considered endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. You will pass through a forested area on the way to the river so you will have the opportunity to see some forest birds as well.

Today’s target birds include –

Scaly-sided Merganser, Mallard, Falcated Duck, Yellow-bellied Tit, Chinese Bamboo Partridge, Vinous-throated Parrotbill, Dark Morph Long-tailed Shrike, Masked Laughing Thrush, Spot-breasted Scimitar Babbler, Red-billed Blue Magpie, Eurasian Magpie, White-browed Laughing Thrushes, Collared Finch-billed Bulbul

Day 3 – Wuyuan

Today we will drive for another two and a half hours to Wuyuan County which is a very popular bird watching destination in southeast China because of its forests and many nature reserves. More than 370 species of birds can be found here. Some places you may visit include Taibai Town, Zhong Ping Villag, Kengkou Village, Le’An River and Yekeng Reservoir.

Today’s target birds include –

Grey-chinned Minivet, Black and Chestnut Bulbuls, Chinese Bulbuls, Collared Finchbill, Hwamei, Grey-sided Scimitar Babbler, Black-throated Tit, Japanese White-eye, Fork-tailed Sunbird, Tristram’s Bunting, Elliot’s Pheasant, Scaly-sided Merganser, Mandarin Duck

Day 4 – Wuyuan

The Wuyuan area is famous for a recently rediscovered species, the Yellow-throated Laughingthrush. It had remained unknown between 1923 and 2000 and is listed as Critically Endangered. It can be seen here during its breeding season of March to June at the Yellow-throated Laughingthrush Small Nature reserve. Other places to see more birds include Zhongyun Town, Xiaoqi Village and Qiu Kou Village.

Today’s target birds include –

Elliot’s Pheasant, Mandarin Duck, Little Egret, White-throated Kingfisher, Black-capped Kingfisher, Crested Kingfisher, Blue-crowned Laughingthrush (Different from the Yellow-throated Laughingthrush which can only be seen during its breeding season) Red-billed Blue Magpie, Yellow-rumped Flycatcher, White Wagtail, Pied Falconet

Day 5 – Depart Wuyuan

Today you will be transferred to either Jingdezhen Airport or Huangshan Airport to check in for your flight to your next destination.
