4 Days Miao Villages Tour Enquiry

Itinerary Day By Day

Day 1 – Arrival in Guiyang

Our guide will meet you outside the baggage claim area at Guiyang Airport and transfer you to your hotel.

Meals: No meals provided.

Day 2 – Guiyang to Kaili

Attractions: Kaili Folk Museum, Qingman Zhouxi Miao Village, Shiqiao Miao Village, Fish in Sour and Spicy Soup

In the morning you will drive to Kaili which is the home of the Miao and Ge ethnic groups and you will visit the Kaili Folk Museum. It provides a comprehensive introduction to the history and culture of the various minority groups in Guizhou. The Minority Customs Hall and the Dragon Boat Hall are the most outstanding.

The Miao villagers wear pleated skirts in three different lengths – long, mid-length and short. Their clothing is colourfully decorated with silver ornaments and hand embroidered designs. You will begin with a visit to the Qingman Zhouxi Miao Village.

Enjoy the wonderful mountain scenery during the drive to Shiqiao Miao Village. Here the villagers make paper from tree bark in a traditional way which has a history of over one thousand years. Different colours are obtained by using various plants.

You will stay overnight in Kaili and enjoy a special dinner of Fish in Sour and Spicy Soup, a local delicacy. It is similar to hotpot with many kinds of delicious sauces.

Day 3 – Kaili to Xijiang

Attractions: Countryside Hiking, Langde Village and Xijiang Village

Today you will have a chance to visit the long skirt Miao (also called Xijiang style). You will begin by an easy hike through the countryside for about two to three hours visiting three different villages. By lunchtime you will arrive at Langde Village where you will have a family visit and eat lunch at the chief’s house. You can taste homemade rice wine and enjoy a singing performance by some of the local girls.

In the afternoon you will drive to Xijiang which is the largest Miao village in China with 1,200 Miao families there and a population of around 6,000. Their houses are called ‘diao jiao lou’, wooden houses on stilt like supports and tile roofs which are built up the hillsides. You will see another performance here and also spend the night.

Day 4 – Kaili to Guiyang, Depart Guiyang

Attractions:  Local Market at Xijiang, Matang Gejia Village

This morning there is a local market at Xijiang, a great place to see the more of the Miao culture and take some photographs. Then you will drive to visit the Matang Gejia Village. The Gejia people are not identified as a separate minority group in China, they are usually regarded as a subset of the Miao. They number only 35,000 and are famous for their Batik products.

Later you will be transferred to the airport in Guiyang to fly back to Shenzhen.
